Course description

The aim of this course is to enable participants to explore the meaning of resistance and disguised compliance when working with families.

Important note: It is essential that you have undertaken the Safeguarding Children e-learning prior to coming on this course (see additional information under full details), or you may be turned away.

Training objectives
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • consider methods to overcome resistance and establish working relationships

  • identify factors indicating disguised compliance and manipulation by clients

  • recognise the pitfalls, risks and consequences

  • examine the process of assessment following information gathering

  • have the opportunity to practice interviewing techniques to address both types of situation

  • identify the support they need within their own settings to manage such situations.

Preparation and Follow Up
Before attending any LSCB training course, participants must attend a Basic Signs and Indicators Child Protection course provided/commissioned by their own organisation or have accessed the Safeguarding Children online e-learning training course. To complete this course go to the e-learning section on the East Sussex Learning Portal, enter the Children’s Workforce channel and click Safeguarding.

Refreshments are provided however lunch is not.
