Course description

This course will provide an introduction to working with young people who exhibit self harming behaviours. It will explore the reasons for self harming and provide an understanding of mental health issues associated with self harming. It will also introduce participants to the East Sussex Multi-Agency Self Harm protocol.

Important note: It is essential that you have undertaken the Safeguarding Children e-learning prior to coming on this course (see additional information under full details), or you may be turned away.

Training objectives
Learning outcomes

By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • broaden their knowledge of self-harming behaviours in children and young people

  • identify a range of self-harming behaviours

  • equip themselves with the skills and knowledge to undertake effective risk assessments

  • develop methods and techniques to support and work with young people who self-harm.

Preparation and Follow Up
Before attending any LSCB training course, participants must attend a Basic Signs and Indicators Child Protection course provided/commissioned by their own organisation or have accessed the Safeguarding Children online e-learning training course. To complete this course go to the e-learning section on the East Sussex Learning Portal, enter the Children’s Workforce channel and click Safeguarding.

Refreshments are provided however lunch is not.
