Course description
All organisations working in partnership to support PREVENT should encourage their staff to be aware of risks of terrorism and be able to report them appropriately. They should be encouraged to consider the risks from terrorism and violent extremism as part of their regular responsibilities.

 

The "Think: Protect: Connect" toolkit is a resource to support any professional who works directly with children and young people schools, FE colleges and youth settings,safeguard children and young people from online radicalisation and extremism;delivered through a series of six engaging workshops, booklets and presentations.

 

Important note: It is essential that you have undertaken the Safeguarding Children e-learning prior to coming on this course (see additional information under full details), or you may be turned away.
Training objectives
To familiarise participants with the "Think :Protect: Connect"  resource. This consists of six carefully scripted workshops that provide children and young people with a safe space to:

• develop personal resilience to extremism and radicalisation exploring issues such as personal identity, belonging and shared values

• increase awareness, knowledge and understanding of radicalisation and extremism and its causes

• challenge the myths, misconceptions and stereotypes held by children and young people around individuals and groups

• equip children and young people with critical thinking skills to empower them to explore and challenge online propaganda and extremist ideologies

• enable children and young people to gain a number of transferable life skills that they can draw on in the future, including digital resilience and critical thinking skills.

 

This course is aimed at all front line professionals, including Managers, from East Sussex County Council (ESCC) Children’s Services Social Care, Early Help, Children’s Services Education,  Foster Carers, Residential Workers,Schools, Adult Services, Youth Offending Team (YOT). East Sussex Police, Health, Probation and the Voluntary and Independent sectors.
Learning outcomes
This two hour session will provide you with:

·  the resources and guidance to deliver Think Protect Connect

·  an insight into the types of Prevent referrals (young people) that are being seen at a local level and how these are/have been supported

·  an understanding of the Channel programme.

 

 

Learning Outcomes:


  • how to deliver Think Protect Connect and practical experience of using some of the resources in a small group

  • how to recognise potentially vulnerable individuals and know when an intervention may be necessary to support them

  • to gain an understanding on how to refer vulnerable young people to the Channel process.

Preparation and Follow Up
Before attending any LSCB training course, participants must attend a Basic Signs and Indicators Child Protection course provided/commissioned by their own organisation or have accessed the Safeguarding Children online e-learning training course.
