Course description
To enable participants to identify, understand and work with sexually harmful behaviours in children and young people. This course is aimed at all front line professionals, including managers; from East Sussex County Council Children’s Services Social Care, Early Help, Children’s Services Education, Adult Services, Youth Offending Team, East Sussex Schools, Police, Health, Probation and the Voluntary and Independent sectors.


Important note: It is essential that you have undertaken the Safeguarding Children e-learning and the Introduction Child Sexual Abuse Modules 1 & 2 prior to coming on this course (see additional information under full details), or you may be turned away.

Learning outcomes
At the end of the course participants will be able to:


  • explore the difference between healthy and harmful sexual behaviour

  • understand the legislation that governs our practice

  • learn about pathways to offending in children and young people

  • manage and assess risk in a multi-agency context

  • learn about practice interventions and how to apply these in a range of settings.

A maximum of three representatives from each team may have a confirmed place, further bookings will be put on a wait list.

Preparation and Follow Up
 
Before attending any LSCB training course, participants must attend a Basic Signs and Indicators Child Protection course provided/commissioned by their own organisation or have accessed the Safeguarding Children online e-learning training course.
 
Participants MUST have also completed both of the eLearning modules:
 
Introduction Child Sexual Abuse - Modules 1 & 2
 
Module 1 provides learners with a basic understanding of the legal definition and prevalence of child sexual abuse.
Module 2 focuses on what makes children and young people vulnerable to sexual abuse and the signs and indicators of sexually abusive behaviour. These modules are vital preparation for the classroom training andyou may be turned away if you have not completed them.
 
To complete these courses go to the e-learning section on the East Sussex Learning Portal, enter the Children’s Workforce channel and click Safeguarding.
