Course description

This bite size course aims to help practitioners develop a better understanding of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Trans issues for children and young people in order to better meet their needs in a safeguarding context.

Training objectives
Learning outcomes

B the end of the course, participants will have:



  • increased awareness of safeguarding issues for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or trans children and young people, including mental health, and risk taking behaviour.

  • increased confidence to tackle homophobic language and bullying, celebrate difference and support young people when they 'come out'.

  • awareness of available good practice resources to support work with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Trans children, young people and parents.

Preparation and follow up

Before attending any LSCB training course, participants must attend a Basic Signs and Indicators Child Protection course provided/commissioned by their own organisation or have accessed the Safeguarding Children online e-learning training course.

To complete this course go to the e-learning section on the East Sussex Learning Portal, enter the Children’s Workforce channel and click Safeguarding.

Refreshments are provided however lunch is NOT provided.
