This one and a half day professional level course focuses on chapter 10 from 'Attachment Based Practice with Adults' by Clark Baim and Tony Morrison, which addresses attachment-based supervision.
It is aimed at supervisors who have already completed supervisor training - Morrison 4x4x4 model. Prior attendance on the attachment training (children and adults) is preferable but not mandatory.
You will need to complete an exercise (audio record a supervision session and listen to it) between the two sessions. Please only book on to the training if you will be able to complete this task.
The training will cover:
Day 1 (full day):
Introduction to the DMM model of Attachment and Adaptation.
Refresher on the Morrison 4x4x4 model of supervision and introduction to how Kolb’s reflective learning cycle relates to the DMM.
Use of case studies to illustrate Type A, C and B supervision and exploration of its strengths and weaknesses.
Supervision History exercise reflecting on past and current experience of supervision as a supervisee and supervisor.
Homework task during break between Day 1 and follow up half day: Practice giving attachment based supervision, audio record 1 supervision session, listen to it and reflect on it ready for follow up session (using questions provided)
Day 2 (half day):
Paired exercise to reflect on learning from experience.
Use of case studies to practice skills in supervising a worker with tendencies towards Type A and Type C.
Developing a plan to embed attachment based supervision into practice.

Have refreshed your knowledge on the four functions of supervision and Morrison’s ‘4 x 4 x 4’ model of supervision.
Understand how the reflective learning cycle (Kolb) relates to the Dynamic-Maturational Model of Attachment and Adaptation (DMM).
Understand how the attachment strategies of supervisor and supervisee impact on the process of supervision.
Understand the ‘cascade effect’ of supervision and the crucial role of attachment-informed supervision in helping practitioners to notice, process and make use of powerful feelings that emerge during work with clients.
You must practice giving attachment based supervision and audio record one session to reflect on and prepare for Day 2. This is an integral part of the course which will allow you to participate fully in the follow up session.
