Equalities: Working with Trans and Gender Questioning Children and Young People - Professional level workshops (Virtual)
This live interactive virtual classroom, delivered through Zoom, is a professional level workshop that provides an insight into the lives of trans and gender questioning children and young people, as well as gaining information on trans identities more generally.
The course aims to increase practitioners confidence in supporting young trans people to develop a strong sense of identity in the face of marginalisation. You will learn practical ways to make our services more safe and inclusive.
Please note: Participants are required to complete Trans Awareness Foundation Module prior to undertaking this workshop.

- Describe a diverse range of trans identities.
- Review and act on duties under the Equality Act 2010 with particular reference to trans children and young people.
- Recognise the needs and experiences of trans children, young people and trans parents and carers, and be able to provide support to this group.
- Examine ways that will support your service to improve its approach to trans equality.
By the end of this workshop you will be able to:
- Consider different identities and the intersection of assigned sex, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation.
- Be aware of the laws which protect trans people and how this relates to your practice.
- Have increased awareness of the challenges trans children and young people face and find ways to develop practice to support young people in your service.
- Be more aware of any possible barriers a trans child or young person may face in your service and be able to implement or encourage developments to help your service become more inclusive.
Preparation:
Participants are required to complete Trans Awareness Foundation Module prior to undertaking this workshop.
The module can be accessed via the East Sussex Learning Portal. Please log on via www.eastsussexlearning.org.uk Then select eLearning > Children’s Workforce > Early help, Social Care and SEND. You will then be able to select the module.

This course is delivered using Zoom.
Full joining instructions, including links to access the training and guidance will be attached to your confirmation email. Please ensure you read these prior to the course start date, block out time in your calendar and keep them in a safe place
The session begins at 13:00, however please ensure you are logged in and ready to go at least 15 minutes before the start of the course, so you allow some time to resolve and technical issues, as we are unable to provide assistance on the day.
