Public sector organisations have a responsibility under law to provide services and support their community and workforce in a way that drives forward equality and inclusion.

Employees must develop an awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion to help them meet the needs of a diverse customer base and workforce, they need to be clear about best practice, and make their own commitment to this agenda within their roles.

This programme aims to provide a general and comprehensive training for staff across the Council that ensures a good understanding of their responsibilities for equality

All delegates are required to complete the Equality and Diversity elearning session on the learning portal before attending this session

Suitable for ALL staff, this training course delivers an intermediate programme, designed to build on the learning from the e-learning courses.

It will confirm understanding of the law, and the requirements of Public Sector Equality Duty and the way that they impact on the work of East Sussex County Council, support participants to develop their understanding of their responsibilities both personally and within their roles, and set their own objectives.

By the end of this course participants will have had the opportunity to:

• confirm their understanding of the practical implications of Equality legislation and how it impacts on their work and service to the clients


• raise awareness of their personal responsibilities to be inclusive, non-discriminatory and the ways in which this will support effective team working


• clarify issues around inappropriate language and terminology, and ways of challenging, or dealing constructively with inappropriate behaviours in colleagues, managers and customers.


• set personal equality objectives for themselves, which supports East Sussex County Council’s overall aims and business plans.
