This live interactive virtual classroom, delivered through Microsoft Teams provides essential information, guidance and professional development for Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs).
This 2-day training programme will provide staff with the skills, knowledge and understanding to undertake the role within an educational setting, ensuring compliance with the latest additions of Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children, as well as locally developed guidance and documentation.
In order to gain your certificate, you must attend both days training, however you may start in the role of DSL after completion of the first day.

DSLs will be equipped with the required skills and knowledge required to lead and co-ordinate safeguarding arrangements in their schools. They will be fulfilling statutory requirements by attending this training.
Preparation and Follow up
Course materials will be shared with you by email, prior to the event/session, along with a materials guide detailing specifics. There will also be an hours reading time on the day of the training, prior to the first session.
All delegates should have followed the guide and read the latest additions of Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children March; both available on www.gov.uk.
This course is delivered using MS Teams. Once you have successfully booked a place on this event, full joining instructions and guidance will be provided with your confirmation email.

If you are either located outside of East Sussex or not from a school – Please be aware that some aspects of this training are specific to East Sussex schools e.g. policies and procedures for responding to and reporting concerns.

This course is aimed at education personnel working within schools or ISEND who have a lead responsibility for safeguarding. The expectation would be that delegates are currently or are preparing to undertake the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) role.
Attendance, Certificates and Renewal
Please note, in order for you to receive a certificate of attendance for this DSL course, you will need to attend for the full duration of the course, which includes two sessions.
After completing this training you will need to access the Designated Safeguarding Leads Refresher course for schools within every 2 years.
Method of Delivery
Presentation and breakout groups including use of case studies. Reflective discussion on live local issues concerning Child Protection best practice and the role of the DSL.
