Course description

This webinar covers themes 3 & 4 of Public Health England's recommendations towards establishing a whole school approach to mental health and emotional wellbeing. The content is designed to support MH Leads in understanding the scope of their role, and offers guidance and key steps in developing practice and systems to lead MH work in schools and colleges.

Training objectives

• Conducting staff surveys
• What does a (mentally) healthy staff team look like?
• Staff wellbeing policy and MH at work plan
• Wellbeing support for staff - graduated response
• Developing a psychologically safe working environment
• Staff supervision
• Wellbeing action plans
• How are MHEW currently taught or referenced in your setting?
• Meeting the specific MHEW learning needs of your cohort(s)
• Gaining students’ views re PSHE and/or MHEW lesson content
• Sharing curriculum content with parents/carers
• Evaluating what pupils gain from your provision
• Developing staff confidence to teach safely and sensitively about MHEW.

Learning outcomes

Use templates to gauge staff wellbeing and development needs
• Establish a plan of MHEW support for staff: employers’ obligations and individual responsibility
• Ensure that staff are appropriately trained and supported for their roles
• Produce cross-curricular plan to refer priority MHEW themes in your community
• Use tools to gain students’ and parents’/carers’ views on MHEW learning
• Use skills audit with staff to inform training re MHEW teaching/activities.

Additional Information

Attendees will receive links to or copies of all associated documentation. MH Leads will be invited to attend follow up area networking groups to further explore session content and share practice.
