Public sector organisations have a responsibility under law to provide services and support their community and workforce in a way that drives forward equality and inclusion.

Employees must develop an awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion to help them meet the needs of a diverse customer base and workforce, they need to be clear about best practice, and make their own commitment to this agenda within their roles.

This programme aims to provide a general and comprehensive training for staff across the Council that ensures a good understanding of their responsibilities for equality.

All delegates must have completed the Equality and Diversity e-learning session prior to attending this course.

This training course has an emphasis on working with staff, partners and customers in an inclusive way. It is suitable for managers, commissioners and aspiring managers.

By the end of this course participants will have had the opportunity to:

• understand how to manage performance effectively in a way that demonstrates their commitment to equality and diversity


• raise awareness of their personal responsibilities to promote diversity issues and the ways in which this will support effective team working


• clarify issues around inappropriate language and terminology, and ways of challenging, or dealing constructively with inappropriate behaviours in colleagues, managers and customers


• consider how to be inclusive and engage with stakeholders and residents in service/policy planning or commissioning
