Course description

This popular workshop is delivered by CAMHS LSCB professionals.  It explores on the impact of adult mental health on children and young people and  is for staff that directly support families where adult mental health issues or illnesses might be present. 

Important note: Participants will need to have undertaken the Mental health foundation eLearning modules 1 and 2 prior to attending this course (see additional information under full details) or you may be turned away. 

Training objectives
The learning objectives for this workshop are to enable participants to:

  • recap on the signs and indicators of mental illness in adults

  • understand the impact that mental illness can have on parenting

  • identify risks and impact on children and young people living with parents with mental health issues

  • explore interventions and services that are available to support families experiencing these issues.

The related SEND and Early Help Competency Framework requirements are:

  • understand the potential impact of parental risk factors on children (domestic violence, parental mental heath, learning and physical disabilities and alcohol and substance misuse)

  • understand the impact on the health and wellbeing of SEND children, young people and their families of parent/carer’s mental health.

Mental Health - Foundation Module 1: Understanding and promoting mental health and wellbeing
Mental Health - Foundation Module 2: Recognising Mental Health issues - Intervention and referring
