Course description

This course is an opportunity for agencies to gain knowledge and confidence in effective ways of working with families when a parent has a learning disability.

Important note: It is essential that you have undertaken the Safeguarding Children e-learning prior to coming on this course (see additional information under full details), or you may be turned away.

Training objectives
Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will gain an understanding of:

  • the term 'learning disability', and the risk and protective factors when there are parenting issues

  • the impact of having a learning disability

  • good practice between agencies and what works for parents and their children

  • some of the challenges for supporting families and how to overcome them.

A maximum of three representatives from each team may have a confirmed place and further bookings will be put on a wait list.

Preparation and Follow Up
Before attending any LSCB training course, participants must attend a Basic Signs and Indicators Child Protection course provided/commissioned by their own organisation or have accessed the Safeguarding Children online e-learning training course.

To complete this course go to the e-learning section on the East Sussex Learning Portal, enter the Children’s Workforce channel and click Safeguarding.

Refreshments are provided however lunch is not.
