Course description

Would you like to increase your knowledge and understanding of this complex area of Safeguarding? Do you feel confident in challenging certain practices whilst trying to remain sensitive and respectful to cultural and religious traditions? This workshop aims to increase the knowledge, awareness, and understanding of professionals of a range of harmful practices including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Honour Based Violence(HBV).

Important note: It is essential that you have undertaken the Safeguarding Children e-learning prior to coming on this course (see additional information under full details), or you may be turned away.



Training objectives

This course will help participants understand the range of harmful practices and how agencies should respond to them.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course participants will: 

  • gain a greater awareness of the warning signs and risk factors in relation to these practices

  • learn information about the safeguarding policies and procedures and legislation

  • understand the challenges and relevant resources in relation to FGM

  • develop confidence in being able to recognise and manage safeguarding issues where harmful practices are present.

A maximum of three representatives from each team may have a confirmed place and further bookings will be put on a wait list.

Preparation and Follow Up

Before attending any LSCB training course, participants must attend a Basic Signs and Indicators Child Protection course provided/commissioned by their own organisation or have accessed the Safeguarding Children online e-learning training course.

Refreshments are provided, however lunch is not.
