To explore how children use technology today and how we can support them to stay safe. This course will reflect the Fostering Network’s ‘Fostering in a Digital World’ a common sense guide. Participants will receive a copy of this guide, as part of their training.
This course aims to support Governors of East Sussex maintained primary schools in their knowledge and understanding of school data using the
Governor Data Pack (Primary). Governors should know how well pupils are achieving, and how their school is performing overall.
This briefing aims to inform governors about the Healthy Schools Programme.
Healthy Schools status: helping schools audit, evidence and gain certification for work around Mental Health, Physical Activity, Healthy Eating and RSHE.
Mental Health, Physical Activity, Healthy Eating and RSHE are four key topics for schools as all pupils return. We know that Schools across East Sussex have gone above and beyond in their support for pupils in these four areas over this period, and the Healthy Schools Award is a chance for schools to gain recognition for this work.
The Healthy Schools approach is an approach used by schools across the UK (and in International schools across the world) to develop a whole school approach to 4 key areas : Mental Health, Physical Activity, Healthy Eating and RSHE. The content is strongly aligned with the latest Ofsted descriptors and provides a clear framework and audit tool to help create a whole school approach for these 4 areas. Schools also gain nationally recognised certification once completed. For the next 3 years the School Health Service will be providing this for free to schools alongside providing support to help schools complete it.
To support the Healthy Schools audit, the School Health Service is also offering free access to the My Health, My School survey. This time saving health and wellbeing survey is an online pupil perception survey that gathers children and young people’s views, behaviours and choices in relation to their health and wellbeing. The survey is available for year groups 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12 and 13, as well as provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. This online, anonymous will analyse data responses immediately for you following completion of the survey to provide you with a full report on the data you need about your pupils.

These new format courses will support staff who work directly with families to be more confident and capable when holding difficult conversations. This will now be delivered as a live interactive virtual classroom via Zoom. Now split over two half day sessions instead of one full day. Important. Please see "Additional Information" for joining instructions.
Participants will be introduced to a new set of practice principles that have been designed by East Sussex practitioners and consider how to integrate holding difficult conversations with families with Solution Focus and Motivational Interviewing techniques.

This virtual classroom course delivered via Zoom will explain the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and to give practitioners the skills to undertake the role within a childcare setting. The course facilitates achieving excellence in Child Protection and Safeguarding by giving tools to embed this into an establishment's organisational culture.

There is an expectation that as the DSL you know the signs, indicators and pre-disposing risk factors of abuse. If you are unsure of these please ensure you access the online safeguarding children and young people course before you attend this training. If you have already attended this training and need to update your training you must attend the EYFS: Designated Safeguarding Leads Training for Childcare Settings – Refresher Training. The refresher course has been reviewed to support experienced DSL's who have attended the initial training.
