This course will explain the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and to give practitioners the skills to undertake the role within a childcare setting. The course facilitates achieving excellence in Child Protection and Safeguarding by giving tools to embed this into an establishment's organisational culture.
Please ensure you are familiar with the Continuum of Need and the Indicators and the SPOA guidance, all attached for your information.
There is an expectation that as the DSL you know the signs, indicators and pre-disposing risk factors of abuse. If you are unsure of these please ensure you access the online safeguarding children course before you attend this training. You can access this training by clicking on the Elearning tab at the top of this page.
If you have already attended this training and need to update your training you must attend the EYFS: Designated Safeguarding Leads Training for Childcare Settings – Refresher Training. The refresher course has been reviewed to support experienced DSL's who have attended the initial training. This initial course is specifically designed to meet the needs of new DSL's.

Follow my footsteps is a session aimed at supporting governors in all aspects of governing board succession planning. The session will look at what good succession planning looks like and will support governing boards to plan for changes in chair and vice chair and support boards in ensuring they have the right skills to carry out their key governor roles and responsibilities.
