Code: AS836 Assessment: Assessment and Reporting Arrangements at the End of Key Stage 2: what every teacher needs to know (EVENT FULL)

This course sets out the statutory requirements for assessment of, and reporting on, pupils' achievements at the end of Key Stage 2 (KS2) in 2019/20. It is primarily aimed at teachers in Year 5 and/or Year 6, although teachers in Years 3 and 4 would also benefit. It is suitable for both experienced teachers and those new to the profession, or new to KS2.

The course will cover:

  • key changes for 2019/20
  • approaches to effective assessment
  • standardisation and moderation (both formal and informal)
  • administration of, and preparation for, the end of KS2 tests and the multiplication check
  • analysis of past end of KS2 test papers
  • strategies and approaches to ensuring the best outcomes for all pupils.

Headteachers are invited to attend the first morning session, free of charge, with their teachers to ensure that key messages are clear and consistent across the school.

The Annual First Aid at Work Refresher is covered over 3 hours and is designed to update and refresh the knowledge and skills of anyone with the First Aid at Work or the Emergency First Aid at Work qualification. First Aid Refresher training is strongly recommended by the HSE and First Aid Awards and is ideally completed one year and then two years after qualification (ie two Annual First Aid Refreshers should be completed during the three years of qualification).

This course aims to provide new Finance Assistants, Bursars and Business Managers an understanding of FMS and how to apply this to daily procedures, i.e. purchase orders, processing deliveries, recording and paying invoices with BACs or cheques, etc. We recommend that new Bursars and Business Managers attend both day 1 and day 2.

The training booklet will be emailed to you a week prior to the course, please remember to bring this with you.

There is no scheduled lunch break but you are welcome to bring food with you and eat it during the course.

The course is scheduled to run from 9.30 until 14.00. However, there is the availability of a Q&A session afterwards for questions specific to your school once the main training session has finished.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) in the workplace is a two day training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help their ESCC colleagues who may be experiencing a mental health issue. 

You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone whilst keeping yourself safe.

The course covers how to support someone to access the resources they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more.

It is essential that your line manager is made aware of the following at the time of, and before approving, your application

What managers are agreeing to when approving their staff member’s attendance on this course:

  • To releasing your staff member for the two day training course and any post support sessions (approx. 2 sessions lasting a maximum of 3 hours each).
  • To releasing your staff member for related meetings (approximately 1 or 2 per year).
  • Allowing time to support colleagues when needed (often at short notice).
