Code: ASC/22/120 Coercion and Control: A Multi Agency Workshop for Staff Working with Domestic Abuse (c)

This course is open to any professional who works with children, families and any adult who is or may be a victim of domestic abuse.

“Not only is coercive control the most common context in which [women] are abused, it is also the most dangerous” (Evan Stark (2007) Coercive Control. How Men Entrap Women in Personal Life. New York: Oxford University Press).

Facilitated by CGL, Sussex Police, ASC and ESSCP, this is an opportunity for staff to learn about the nature of coercion and control and how it permeates throughout society. Additionally, you will have the chance to share your own experiences with colleagues from across East Sussex, making the most of the opportunity to consider how best to deal with these challenging and complex cases.

Please note you must have completed the following 3 Domestic Abuse e-learning modules before attending:

Domestic Abuse - Foundation Module 1: What is domestic abuse?

Code: GOV1131 Governor Briefing: The Apprenticeship Levy

Since April 2017, all employers with a pay bill over £3 million per annum must pay 0.5% of their annual salary expenditure into the Apprenticeship levy. For maintained schools, the local authority is the employer, and the County Council collects and pays the levy on their behalf, and in turn supports schools to identify apprenticeship training to recoup against the levy. Since the levy was introduced schools have paid £1,207,714.00 into the levy. In 20/21 ESCC schools contributed £441k to the councils overall Apprenticeship Levy fund in the last financial year. This is compared to £606k from the council’s core business services. Schools are not limited to withdrawing their own contributions from the levy pot, they are able to draw from the whole levy pot.

Apprenticeships are available for all school staff at all levels of skill and experience, offering the opportunity for those starting out in their career, as well as those wanting to undertake development training. There is no financial cost or change to employment terms and conditions for existing staff to access professional training and qualifications. For new staff it is an opportunity to equip people with valuable work-based skills, build confidence and to earn while they learn.
