Code: ESC/22/203 Mental Health First Aid in the Workplace

‘Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) in the Workplace’ is a two day accredited training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help their ESCC colleagues who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone whilst keeping yourself safe.

The course covers how to support someone to access the resources they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and much more.

It is essential that your line manager is made aware of the following at the time of, and before approving, your application.

What managers are agreeing to when approving their staff member’s attendance on this course:

  •  To releasing your staff member for the two day training course and any post training support sessions (an average of two sessions per year lasting approximately two hours each).
  • To releasing your staff member for related meetings and/or training (approximately 3 per year lasting approximately 90 minutes).
  • Allowing time to support colleagues when needed (often at short notice).

Code: MHST010 MHST: Supporting Children and Young People with Anxiety and Worry

Anxiety is a natural, normal feeling we all experience from time to time. It can vary in severity from mild uneasiness through to a terrifying panic attack. It can vary in how long it lasts, from a few moments to many years.

Naturally, anxiety will be more prevalent for children and young people during periods in their lives that are associated with stress, such as exams, leaving school, and starting new academic years, and during these times additional support may be needed.
