Code: EYCP827 EYFS : Practitioner Child Protection Training for Childcare Settings

This course provides participants with the knowledge that will enable them to identify signs and indicators of abuse and their responsibilities in terms of responding to and highlighting any concerns, appropriately using East Sussex County Council procedures. It will also discuss the wider safeguarding role and discuss how to identify children and families who require an Early Help Plan and where to get the appropriate help and advice.

Please find attached the Continuum of Need and indicators and information on British Values. These will be referred to during the training so please familiarise yourself with these.

This course is not suitable for Registered Childminders and Designated Safeguarding Leads. Please attend either the "Designated Safeguarding Leads Training for Childcare Settings - initial Training" or "Designated Safeguarding Leads Training for Childcare Settings – Refresher training" as applicable. See attached Guidance document for further information.

This is an advanced half day Children’s Workforce workshop for Health Visitors, Community Nursery Nurses and other interested 0-19s practitioners, who should access when relevant to their caseload.

It provides an opportunity to learn about the significance of mental health within the perinatal period; the impact it has on the mother, infant, family and society; and why all service providers should be aware of perinatal mental health and know how to respond.

In this one day classroom course, facilitated by Kristi Hickle University of Sussex and Chrissy Bulling Practice Development Lead, you will be able to deepen your knowledge about trauma informed practice in the context of Children’s Services.

Practitioners must complete the trauma e-learning, and ESSCP Professional multi-disciplinary trauma training (accessible via the learning portal) or previous trauma informed practice training prior to attending this course.

The aim of the training is to inform delegates of the legal requirements for the safe management of asbestos.

This course will provide information on the risks associated with asbestos, and enable delegates to implement suitable and sufficient management systems, to ensure compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

There is particular reference to the duty holder and who that could be, the surveys available, what to expect in a survey and the asbestos management plan and its use and requirement.

Code: EYCP829 EYFS : Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) Training for Childcare Settings - Initial Training

This course will explain the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and to give practitioners the skills to undertake the role within a childcare setting. The course facilitates achieving excellence in Child Protection and Safeguarding by giving tools to embed this into an establishment's organisational culture.

Please ensure you are familiar with the Continuum of Need and the Indicators and the SPOA guidance, all attached for your information.

There is an expectation that as the DSL you know the signs, indicators and pre-disposing risk factors of abuse. If you are unsure of these please ensure you access the online safeguarding children course before you attend this training. You can access this training by clicking on the Elearning tab at the top of this page.

If you have already attended this training and need to update your training you must attend the EYFS: Designated Safeguarding Leads Training for Childcare Settings – Refresher Training. The refresher course has been reviewed to support experienced DSL's who have attended the initial training. This initial course is specifically designed to meet the needs of new DSL's.

‘Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) in the Workplace’ is a two day accredited training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help their ESCC colleagues who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone whilst keeping yourself safe.

The course covers how to support someone to access the resources they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and much more.

It is essential that your line manager is made aware of the following at the time of, and before approving, your application.

What managers are agreeing to when approving their staff member’s attendance on this course:

• To releasing your staff member for the two day training course and any post training support sessions ( an average of two sessions per year lasting approximately two hours each).

• To releasing your staff member for related meetings and/or training (approximately 3 per year lasting approximately 90 minutes).

• Allowing time to support colleagues when needed (often at short notice).
