This course aims to develop specialist knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). It enables reception teachers to ensure that their provision is of high quality and that it meets the needs of their class. It will support delegates to understand the principles of the EYFS including how to plan and organise an appropriate learning environment and how to develop effective systems for observation, assessment, planning and evaluation.

Code: EYCP384 EYFS : Practitioner Child Protection Training for Childcare Settings

This course provides participants with the knowledge that will enable them to identify signs and indicators of abuse and their responsibilities in terms of responding to and highlighting any concerns, appropriately using East Sussex County Council procedures. It will also discuss the wider safeguarding role and discuss how to identify children and families who require an Early Help Plan and where to get the appropriate help and advice.

Please find attached the Continuum of Need and indicators and information on the Prevent Duty and British Values. These will be referred to during the training so please familiarise yourself with these.

This course is NOT suitable for Registered Childminders and Designated Safeguarding Leads. Please attend either the "Designated Safeguarding Leads Training for Childcare Settings - initial Training" or "Designated Safeguarding Leads Training for Childcare Settings – Refresher training" as applicable. Code: EYFS047 EYFS : Teaching Assistant Training - Effective Interactions and Observations in the EYFS

This 2 x half day course aims to support teaching assistants in understanding the impact of high quality interactions on young children's learning and how these, along with effective observations, support assessment in the EYFS.

Delegates will have the opportunity to consider and discuss what makes a high quality interaction; what makes an effective observation; the merits of long and short observations and the importance of 'pupil and parent voice'.

There will be opportunities for delegates to practise and hone their acquired skills in school between sessions and to bring some of their observations to the second session to share, discuss and refine.

Code: EYCP387 EYFS : Designated Safeguarding Leads Training for Childcare Settings - Initial Training

This course will explain the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and to give practitioners the skills to undertake the role within a childcare setting. The course facilitates achieving excellence in Child Protection and Safeguarding by giving tools to embed this into an establishment's organisational culture.

Please ensure you are familiar with the Continuum of Need and the Indicators, the Prevent Duty guidance and Information on British Values, all attached for your information.

There is an expectation that as the DSL you know the signs, indicators and pre-disposing risk factors of abuse. If you are unsure of these please ensure you access the online safeguarding children course before you attend this training. You can access this training by clicking on the Elearning tab at the top of this page.

If you have already attended this training and need to update your training you must attend the EYFS: Designated Safeguarding Leads Training for Childcare Settings – Refresher Training. The refresher course has been reviewed to support experienced DSL's who have attended the initial training. This initial course is specifically designed to meet the needs of new DSL's.

This course is designed to support leaders/managers (currently and prospective) in preschool settings to understand, reflect on and develop effective Leadership and Management skills in Early Years Settings, including childminders with assistants.

Between the 2 sessions, delegates will be required to undertake tasks in their settings based on their learning on day 1. Issues arising from these tasks will be addressed during day 2.

On this course participants will look at methods to effectively manage the process of an allegation against a colleague or themselves.
This training is only aimed at Early Years professionals who will be directly involved in The Managing Allegations process and who have a relevant need to investigate. For example all Designated Safeguarding Leads ( DSLs) that would be responsible for managing allegations – it could also be relevant for owners and committee representatives responsible for oversight of an Early Years setting, and childminders.
