Summary

This foundation stage module provides an essential basic introduction to safeguarding children and young people in East Sussex. It is intended for any member of the children's workforce and for any professional or volunteer working with adults who care for children or where children are present in the family. It functions both as a stand-alone module and as an introduction to classroom Child Protection training. This course is mandatory for all staff working with children or in Children's Services.

Objectives
  • An awareness of current legislation and guidance and how it relates to the safety and welfare of children and young people
  • An understanding of the context in which abuse may occur
  • Knowledge of the various symptoms, indicators and risk factors associated with actual or potential abuse
  • Clarity of constraints and requirements around the levels of statutory intervention with children and their families
  • Understanding of how your role fits into the safeguarding process
  • An understanding of the importance of good observation and record keeping within your role
